Check out Nando's new commercials, directed by NYFA Alum Kushaal Chawla

New York Film Academy (NYFA) Alum Kushaal Chawla produced and directed two commercials for the global restaurant chain Nando’s, starring Jeeveshu Ahluwalia and Rahul Dua & Nishant Suri, some of India’s top stand-up comedians.

Kushaal is a film director, producer, and writer that runs his own production company called Dream Slate Pictures where they create and produce commercial and narrative content for all platforms. 

For Nando's commercials, Kushaal's company served both as a production house and as a creative agency. They designed and wrote the scripts for the brand's campaign.

About the creative process, Kushaal says: 

"It’s not often that you find a client like Nando’s who gives you the creative liberty to create a quirky and out-of-the-box story that is very unlike any other burger campaign. The idea of this film is to make the audience (through Rahul’s character) realize that they never know whether there is any chicken in the generic chicken patty burger which is why they should be tempted to try the grilled Nando’s chicken burger which has a real chicken breast and hence justifying the campaign #PattyGayiTelLene. The idea of casting Rahul and Nishant was also to show a genuine friendship and to justify the characters as they’re both stand-up comedians and understand the comedic timing that needed to be achieved in this script. The camera angles, sets, contrasting costumes, and music were also designed in a way that they seem to be straight out of a Bollywood movie and complement the over-the-top nature of Rahul’s initial character in the film.”

The film Another Time is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the US, UK, and Germany and has won over 15 international awards at film festivals. Currently, Kushaal is in the development stage of a feature film to be shot in India.
