NYFA Alum Andrés Figueroa on booking a role in Stranger Things Season 4
If you've watched Stranger Things Season 4 you might've seen alum Andrés Figueroa in one of the scenes. Andrés spoke to NYFA Alumni Network about how he booked the role and his experience.
NYFA Alumni Network: Can you tell us a bit about yourself, where you're from, and what brought you to New York Film Academy?
A.F: I am originally from Venezuela. In 2015 I was living in San Francisco where I decided to take a small acting class to see if it was a good fit for me and I ended up falling in love with it. My teacher at the time told me that New York Film Academy would be perfect for me so I took a chance and moved to Los Angeles that same year to begin the Acting for Film 4-week program and then my BFA.
NYFA Alumni Network: What was the audition process like of booking a role on Stranger Things season 4?
A.F: Auditioning for this role was very fun. They wanted a Californian/Surfer-Dude kind of character so I had a friend who's born and raised in north california record the lines and send them to me so I could practice/imitate his natural accent for a self tape. I didn’t hear anything from them for a month so i thought I didn’t get it. But then I got a call from my agent saying that I got the role! Thats right, no callback! I booked it straight from the self tape so you can imagine how excited and surprised I was.
NYFA Alumni Network: How was your experience working on the set and the cast?
A.F: I have never been more nervous and excited at the same time in my life. Thankfully everybody on set was super nice and loved the audition so that helped me calm down but it wasn’t till I met the entire cast that I felt fully relaxed because they really made me feel like I belonged. We were doing a comedic scene so overall everyone was just having fun.
